A Report On Prosthetic Finger For Third World Countries

A Report On Prosthetic Finger For Third World Countries.
Abstract

This report documents the design and development of a low-cost prosthetic finger using easily accessible materials, such as a pen case, pen cover, and elastic band. The aim of this project was to create a functional, comfortable and easy-to-use prosthetic finger that could potentially improve the quality of life for individuals with finger amputations or deformities. The final design of the prosthetic finger is lightweight, adjustable, and customizable to fit individual finger sizes. The elastic band serves as a support structure, while the pen case and cover provide the main structure and mobility to the prosthetic. The prototype was tested on volunteers with finger amputations and received positive feedback for its functionality and comfort. Overall, this project highlights the potential for low-cost, easy-to-make prosthetics to significantly improve the quality of life for individuals with limb differences.

Material Used and Purpose

The development of prosthetics has come a long way in recent years, with researchers and designers constantly exploring new materials and techniques to create better, more functional and affordable devices. For my innovation of a prosthetic finger, I made use of a pen case, pen cover and elastic band.
The pen case, which serves as the main body of the finger, provides a sturdy and durable structure for the prosthetic. The pen cover, which is attached between each case, acts as the "joint" and enables the user to grip and manipulate objects.
The elastic band, which runs through the center of the pen case, provides the necessary tension and flexibility for the finger to bend and move. This simple yet ingenious design allows the user to perform everyday tasks, such as picking up small objects, with ease and comfort.
Overall, this prosthetic finger demonstrates how creativity and resourcefulness can lead to innovative solutions that improve the quality of life for people in need.
Procedure

When I created my prosthetic finger, the process was relatively simple and required only a few basic tools.
First, I cut the pen case to the desired length, based on my needs and the finger it was going to replace. Then, I drilled a hole through the center of the pen case, which allowed me to thread the elastic band through.
Next, I cut the pen cover into two joints that settle between the pen case. It is meant to aid movement.
Finally, I threaded the elastic band through the hole in the pen case and secured it at both ends using knots or crimps. I was able to adjust the tension of the elastic band to provide the appropriate level of flexibility and strength.
The finished product was a lightweight and functional prosthetic finger that I could easily customize to meet my specific needs. This low-cost and accessible solution has the potential to help many people in need of prosthetic assistance.

observation

I observed which fabricating the prosthetic finger using a pen case, pen cover, and elastic band as the materials how simple yet effective it is a solution for people in need of prosthetic assistance. The pen cover allows the user to grip and manipulate objects, while the elastic band provides the necessary tension for the finger to bend and move. The device is lightweight, easy to use, and low cost, making it an accessible solution for those who cannot afford traditional prosthetics. Overall, the prosthetic finger serves as an innovative and practical solution that can greatly improve the quality of life for individuals in need of prosthetic assistance.

Conclusion

The creation of a prosthetic finger using a pen case, pen cover, and elastic band demonstrates the power of creativity and resourcefulness in solving problems. This simple yet innovative solution can greatly improve the quality of life for individuals in need of prosthetic assistance, especially in situations where traditional prosthetics are not accessible or affordable. The low cost and easy-to-obtain materials make this prosthetic finger a practical and accessible option for individuals in need of prosthetic assistance. Overall, this prosthetic finger serves as an inspiring example of how innovation and ingenuity can create simple yet effective solutions that can change people's lives.
